    Mellow moment

    Sanderson country dining room

With all the gorgeous autumn foliage around at the moment, beautiful leaves are very much at the forefront of our minds here at Country Days – and we can’t get enough of ideas for incorporating such seasonal country motifs into the home.

Not surprisingly, we’re loving the rustic simplicity of this pared-back country dining room scheme – sometimes less really is more – where the focus of attention is the stunning curtains embroidered with striking golden fern leaves.

The fabric is Tilton from Sanderson‘s Potton Wood collection, inspired by British woodlands and forests. Keep the look calm by combining with a muted wallpaper such as the Soho Plain wallpaper in Parchment (also by Sanderson), which adds textural interest without detracting from the fabulous curtain fabric.

For an informal feel, team with the mellow tones of a wooden trestle table and bench – you may want to comfy up the bench with a few cushions such as this one made from Cape Plain and Hockley Stripe fabrics from Sanderson.

Then finish off the look by hanging a retro-style pendant over the table to create an atmospheric mood in the evenings.

    Bring the outdoors in

    Easter living room

Bringing the outdoors in is a huge part of the country look. Here at Country Days, we fell in love with this country living room because of its nature-inspired fabrics, which make you feel as if you’re out rambling in the countryside.

The fabrics are from the Woodland Walk collection by Sanderson and combine neutral shades, pretty spring greens and wildlife motifs for a fresh and lively feel.

A woodland theme works well in a room that’s awash with natural textures, such as the exposed stone wall, beams and wooden floorboards shown here. If you’re lucky enough to have a period feature like a mullion window, you want to draw attention to it and a beautiful curtain fabric like Woodland Chorus (also on one of the cushions) frames it beautifully, as well as linking to the garden.

And because it’s Easter, we couldn’t resist the cushion fabric featuring an Easter bunny (second from left on the sofa) called Squirrel & Hedgehog. A mossy green velvet cushion (Taormina), meanwhile, is perfect for bringing in a solid block of colour that partners with the tones in the curtain fabric.

The statement chair in a complementary fabric, Woodland Berries, injects extra interest, while a leather armchair gives a nod to period style and tones with the beams.

Finally, a natural flooring rug is just the thing for finishing off the look.

    Make an entrance…

    country hallway

If your New Year’s resolution is to give your home a new look, the hallway is as good a place as any to start – and a beautiful hallway certainly sets the scene for wowing your guests as soon as they step through the door.

We love the inspiration provided by this cosy country hallway with its cottagey beams, sophisticated dark woods, practical tiled floor, and fabrics and wallpaper that exude a hint of spring to come.

It’s tricky to ensure a space awash with wooden beams has a light and bright feel, but choosing a wallpaper with an off-white backdrop goes a long way to lightening up the look. The pretty paper on the wall here tones beautifully with the beams and gives a nod to spring with its woodland birds motif (this is Woodland Chorus 215704 by Sanderson).

Keeping the hallway free from draughts can be a tall order at this time of year, but invest in a door curtain and you’ll help keep the space super- cosy. The gorgeous curtain fabric (Butterfly Embroidery 235600, also by Sanderson), featuring butterflies on a neutral backdrop, complements the beams, tiled floor and dark furniture beautifully. It also makes a stunning cushion on a vintage-style chair that injects a touch of retro chic into the hallway.

    by  • 07/05/2014 • Country style • 2 Comments

Make time to sit and unwind on those leisurely days at home. As seen in the ‘Live like it’s the weekend’ feature in our latest issue, Country Homes & Interiors, here’s how to recreate this look in 3 easy steps…

laid-back style on the country days blog

Choose a comfortable neutral sofa, from John Lewisand experiment with cushions in a mixture of blue and yellow toned fabrics, try Pretty Dandy, Emma Bridgewater at Sanderson and Cloth & Cover.

Hang window panels or blinds with a pretty floral design for a cheerful view, we love the latest designs by Villa Nova. Use a seagrass basket from John Lewis, for keeping those papers and magazines neat and tidy in.

Arrange a cluster of simple framed prints to give the room a focal point; Marks & Spencer have a great collection at the moment.

Then sit back, feet up and enjoy your weekend.

It’s the time of year when gardens are beginning to bloom and you want to bring all that floral loveliness into the house. An eye-catching way of introducing florals into a country living room is with a stunning statement wall.

This beautiful wallpaper (from Sanderson‘s Voyage of Discovery collection) whisks you away to distant lands with its elegant hand-painted-effect tropical trail  featuring hummingbirds, butterflies and exotic flora. It’s a look that works beautifully in a period property. Team with neutral furniture and add in the odd piece of furniture or accessory with an Oriental feel for a stylish East meets West look.

    Country room: stylish summerhouse

    by  • 25/06/2013 • Country style • 0 Comments

Who wouldn’t love a summerhouse like this, whatever the weather?

This room has a lovely relaxed Swedish feel with its white cladding walls. Yet it’s a country scheme that cleverly combines informal and formal, elegant and vintage. Those comfy armchairs in a smart Sanderson Home stripe create a focal point for the room, while floorlength curtains with toning striped edging add to the cosy feel. Vintage touches are provided by the upturned crate coffee table, folding stool and that fantastic aqua chest, while the enamel pendant light adds a stylish retro touch. Even the ladder tucked away in the corner is pretty yet practical – and ideal for changing the light bulb!  And,  the woodburner provides the ideal solution for those chilly days.

Definitely the perfect place to while away a few hours and plan your garden with a cuppa…

    London Design Week

    by  • 18/03/2013 • Country moment, Country style • 0 Comments

It is London Design Week so myself and the team are out and about searching for the latest looks and styles to feature in Country Homes & Interiors in the coming months. From the King’s Road to Chelsea Harbour we’ll be chatting to our favourite fabric and wallpaper designers and interiors gurus to shortlist the very best for today’s country home. Here are three of my new-season favourites so far…

1 I love the relaxed beauty of Sanderson‘s Spring Flowers with its watercolour style on a linen mix.

2 Inspired by the French impressionist paintings and the lovely shades of the Mediterranean Sea, JAB‘s Provence collection of embroideries, stripes and plains encompasses the freshness and lightness of a new season.

    Spring’s new colours.

    by  • 20/02/2013 • Country style • 0 Comments

There’s nothing quite like seeing an old colour with a fresh eye. Perhaps the colour has been out of fashion for a while and then when we see it anew we fall in love with it all over again! In our colour trend special, (p73-83 march issue– out now!) we take a look at a gorgeous array of new spring shades from the cool blue, grey hues found on our British waterways; to the reappearance of a spicy, retro palette of cinnamon and ochre; the softest rose quartz tones, which are so soothing in a bedroom; charcoal greys teamed with indigo and as seen here, botanical brights. Take a look at the March issue for decorating inspiration using the latest country colours inspired by nature.

We love these saturated tomato reds and lush greens, seen here, and think it quite a brave colour scheme. The effect is well worth it and is a fresh take on the classic country house look.
