Video: Floral buys inspired by Mother’s Day

    by  • 14/03/2015 • Country style, Country Videos • 0 Comments

As our thoughts turn to celebrating Mother’s Day this weekend, here at Country Homes & Interiors we’ve started thinking about  gifts that keep on giving…

We decided flowers and home accessories for serving afternoon tea were a winning combination – after all, catching up over a nice cup of tea is a beloved pastime for Mums. Watch our latest video to see our  favourite new buys which tick all the boxes above….

We’ve selected the brand new Coronation Meadow teapot design from Burleigh, featuring a botanical illustration inspired by the meadow flowers of Highgrove House. From Liberty, we’ve chosen the perfect cup and saucer for afternoon tea which features a contemporary floral design and vintage-chic rose designed coasters, from Prezzybox.com, to enjoy with your cuppa.

Thank you to Neptune, Hobbycraft, Garden Trading, Berry Red, Nordic House, Vanessa Arbuthnott and Butlers for all your help.

Relax and unwind in a hue of soft neutrals with the brand new Croft Collection by John Lewis, perfect for the modern country home.

Water hyacinth basket, £30; Tunstall floor lamp, £180; Berwick medium sofa including-cushions, £1,300; serving bowl, £28, all from the Croft Collection at John Lewis.

Here’s how to create this look in 3 easy steps…

Add a scattering of pale blues, pinks and greys for a desirable infusion of gentle colour; which can be achieved by the addition of cushions, throws and rugs.

Build a subtle contrast of textures by including natural wood, with a floor lamp and a wooden bench or table to complement the soft touches of light fabrics.

Shaded ceramics with a handmade feel add an artisan touch to the croft inspired style of utilitarian and nostalgic trends.

    Cosy weekend

Set the scene for a cosy warm weekend with lazy lie-ins and breakfast in bed!

I don’t know about you but I long for my lie-in on colder winter weekends.   This cosy looking moodboard encourages those well-deserved hours in bed.  Make sure to wrap up warm with extra thick socks and buy a woolly hot water bottle guaranteed to keep you warm ‘til morning.  Neutral colours and soft tones will help create a tranquil, calm ambiance.  Mix in knits and textured throws to add comfort and extra warmth.

Perhaps even treat a loved one to breakfast in bed too or be treated yourself!…which for me is the perfect way to kick start my wintry weekend!

Mmmm…maybe the winter months aren’t so bad after all 😉

If you’re looking for fun home accessories with a difference, look no further than the brilliant collection at Catherine Colebrook. Practical and guaranteed to make you smile, Catherine has created a fabulous, somewhat eccentric collection of kitchen textiles, cushions, art prints, mugs and much more.

Piped edge cushions, £33 each; Pop oilcloth in yellow, £18 a metre; 'You are what you eat' tea towel, £9.99; Alphabet Coasters, £3 each, all Catherine Colebrook.

Passionate about supporting British business, the entire collection is designed and made in the UK — the tea towels are printed in Wales, the mugs are produced by a family run business in Scotland and all the textile printing and sewing is done in-house in Cheltenham.

I love this gorgeous mug that stands proudly on my desk. I can assure you it’s always brimming with tea, not a bubble in sight…

    Say it with words

    by  • 18/04/2012 • Country style • 4 Comments

There’s been a massive boom in the written word as a decorative motif recently. Whether it be sentimental sayings and phrases carved in wood on swing seats, printed on teacups and textiles such as cushions and tea towels as well as on posters and accessories such as rubber stamps and pencil cases. It’s a nice way to create an ambience, or set the scene at home and let your loved ones know how you feel without even being there!

If you love the written word then you can obviously find it anywhere and everywhere. Old love letters and the backs of vintage postcards translate into fabulous wallpaper designs, such as the one shown here. Old maps and music scores can be equally as decorative and the beauty of these designs is they are subtle and nostalgic. If you don’t fancy wallpapering a whole wall then how about framing a page from an old song sheet or an out of date map?
