In this month’s issue of Country Homes & Interiors our main decorating feature explores using rich, warm colours to give your home the feel-good factor. I’ve been busy making moodboards to banish the January blues and share some further ideas on how to use colour – whether it’s adding small touches with cushions and throws or being brave with bold paints on furniture and walls.

Feeling inspired? Why not get creative with our Moodboard tool for yourself and share your ideas with us on Housetohome.

    Party Decorations

    by  • 01/06/2012 • Country style • 1 Comment

The excitement here at Country Homes & Interiors has been bubbling up all week — caused by a mixture of the lovely weather, the approaching Diamond Jubilee celebrations and the promise of half-term fun. For all of these reasons we are in party mode, and on that note on my wish list for this week are all the decorative trimmings you will need to see you through any summer celebrations.

The Hambledon has a great selection of colourful paper treats, from bright pom poms and feel-good word banners, to playful bunting and balloons! These smaller details are an easy way to instantly spread some cheer throughout your home, not forgetting the garden for any outdoor entertaining. Happy decorating for the Jubilee

Celebrate word banner, £9.95; Honeycomb paper balls, £3 each, Large pompom pack £18.50 set of 3; Paper confetti banner, £9.95; Paper animal balloons, £3, all from available at The Hambledon.

P.S Why not make them last, I had some pom poms up for a festive party and thought they looked so pretty that I decided to leave them up all year round!

    Pretty paint colours

    by  • 05/04/2012 • Country style • 0 Comments

There’s something about a bank holiday that seems to get everyone itching to decorate. If you’re looking for some paint inspiration this weekend, look no further than this stunning new photography from Little Greene.

The fantastic new colour chart has ‘flying chips’ that allow you to view any chosen colour away from the stark white background of a typical paint chart. What a simple, yet genius idea! It’s handy for holding directly over fabrics, wallpapers and existing paint colours to get the perfect feel for the country look you’re after.

The newly designed colour cards showcase Little Greene’s 164 shades. I particularly love the four new delicate pastels shown below- Drizzle, Mono, Mirror & Pink Slip, all perfectly on trend for summer.

Which colour palette is your favourite?

    All things bright and beautiful…

    by  • 28/02/2012 • Country style • 2 Comments

I don’t know about you, but there is something so heartening about seeing a home filled with vibrant colours and bold patterns. All too often people feel restricted when it comes to decorating and as a consequence, choose something far removed from their personal taste simply because they think it is appropriate.  This beautiful living room features in Homespun Style by interiors stylist Selina Lake (£19.99, Ryland Peters & Small), and shows that you don’t have to choose a muted shade on the walls in order to complement a bold floral design on a sofa. On the contrary, the strong blue colour on the walls only enhances the sofa rather than overpowers it. Would you be tempted to go for something similar in your own home?

The pretty yet bold floral design on this sofa looks simply perfect against the vivid blue walls. Perfect for a contemporary country living room.

    Country brights from Avoca

    by  • 10/02/2012 • Country style • 4 Comments

‘Our mission is mainly to have fun with colour and texture’. This heartwarming quote along with ‘weaving a hug’ is taken from my Avoca mohair throw. Experts in all things bright and beautiful, this family run company began in a 1723 Irish woollen mill in pretty Avoca village, County Wicklow. For Centuries, Avoca handweavers’ throws, blankets and knitted accessories have made homes beautiful and cosy; it’s easy to see why with the vivid colours and gorgeous patterns seen here in the autumn/winter collection… perfect for staying warm in this chilly weather!
