    Monochrome

    The trend for black and white has been around for a while now, but I have never particularly thought it would work in a relaxed country home. I was proved wrong when I saw these photos of Sarah McCarthy’s Devon cottage – it’s featured in our July issue (on sale now).

    I love the way Sarah has used a monochrome palette throughout her home. The reason it works, I think, is that the wooden furniture, staircases and floors really soften the look. Plus her use of natural textured accessories, such as baskets, lampshades and decorative wreaths add to that lovely rustic feel.

    The black and white chequerboard flooring came from Amtico. The slate topped console table adds to the 'clean' look.

     

    Simple black roller blinds, lampbases, wall light, butler's tray and gingham cushions set the tone for the living room.
