There’s lots of fun to be had this half-term for families with young children. At this time of year nothing beats kicking up the leaves on a woodland walk, collecting conkers and acorns, or a bit of pumpkin carving. Here’s our round-up of the best ways to spend your days in Gloucestershire, Suffolk, and Hampshire…
Daylesford Farm, Gloucestershire
Head to this organic farm where children will love Ashley’s Camp for Halloween games and surprises, pumpkin picking and carving, and a bat walk. Open to 3-6 years old, the camp runs from 9am-3pm on Thursday 29 and Friday 30 October, with lots of spooky Daylesford organic treats and prizes to take home too. And for you, book a treatment at the Bamford Hay Barn, the perfect opportunity to have a relaxing time while the kids are having fun, or browse the store for fabulous finds for your home. Round off the day with a trip to the Pizza Bar and everyone will go home happy.
The Vyne, Hampshire
It’s time to kick through those autumn leaves in a lovely location. The National Trust has loads of fun events all the family will enjoy during half-term. Try big tree climbing at The Vyne in Hampshire (pictured) on Tuesday 27 October or den building created from things you’ve gathered on a woodland walk. And, of course, you can’t go home without sampling the fabulous cakes in the tea rooms.
Jimmy’s Farm, Suffolk
We all love Jamie’s mate Jimmy on their TV shows, how about visiting his farm near Ipswich? There’s a lot on during half term week. Be sure to kick off with a greedy farmer’s breakfast in the restaurant. There are cute sheep dog puppies to Instagram, plus lots of Halloween fun – a witches and wizards treasure hunt, pumpkin bowling, spooky face painting and more. Meantime you can check out the farm shop in a converted barn – packed with the best produce from local artisan producers – or have a browse round the Joules store on site. If you feel a crafty urge coming on, head to Wild Raspberry Creative Studio, also on site, for ceramic painting, decopatch, mosaic making or textile printing.
Are there great half-term events in your area too? We would love to hear more…
