    Sunshine

    by  • 10/01/2011 • Country moment • 2 Comments

What a relief to see some sunshine yesterday. For one day only, I’m sure, I:

    • Got the bikes out of the shed and we all went for a ride.

    • Cut back the dead leaves from my ‘frozen’ phormium (it looks less dead now)!

    • Potted up some pink hyacinths in a pretty glass vase and put them on my windowsill.

It almost felt that Spring was on the horizon…in my dreams!

    Revived 1950’s wallpapers

    by  • 07/01/2011 • Country craft, Country style • 6 Comments

When this new collection from Little Greene popped in my inbox it filled me with joy, especially on a rainy day such as this! Launching this month they have collaborated with The Whitworth Art Gallery in Manchester, home to the largest wallpaper archive in the UK. I love how they’ve taken eclectic designs from the 50’s era and applied their expert eye and use of colour resulting in a relaxed style that is really liveable today. The soft pastel palette and pretty motifs would work perfectly in a modern country home.

    Easy appliqué cushion

    by  • 05/01/2011 • Country craft, Country style • 1 Comment

Turn your hand to this quick craft idea by Deputy Editor, Sara Bird, and jazz up a plain cushion in minutes.

Choose a pretty patterned fabric with different motifs and designs, such as flowers and birds. Using fusible webbing iron on to the back of your patterned fabric paper side up. Turn your fabric right side facing and cut out your selected designs. Work out where you want your patches to go on a plain cushion case. Peel off the backing paper and iron onto the cushion case glue side down.

You can leave this as it is, or add a few little embroidery stitches like here for added decoration

    Tales of snow

After a lovely long break, the Country Homes & Interiors team are all back at their desks today with gruelling tales of how they survived the weather chaos and travel disruption to get home to Ireland, Devon, Wales, even Bali!

I headed up to North Wales to spend Christmas with my parents and the snow was deep… but beautiful! As you can see the white stuff had its uses!
