With the start of the new year, I have been having thoughts about what I will do at home in the year to come. Last year we made a list of various DIY jobs that needed sorting – repaint exterior woodwork, extend deck, mend cladding, get bookshelves built. I was very impressed that we had a big tick next to each of them by the end of the year.

My big challenge for 2011 is the garden – I need to replant borders, maybe add a vegetable patch, get rid of some (or all) of the plastic toys that my kids have grown out of. In my dreams this is what it would like…

      Dear Rhoda,

I’m kind of new to gardening myself – my blog last summer was full of early attempts at vegetables and so on. The whole area is looking a bit neglected at the moment though – despite efforts to grow winter spinach and things.

Anyway, the whole thing behind my gardening was a little showcase for the children’s gardening stuff I sell through my website – nothing plastic, all nice neutral gentle colours, wood etc. I smiled when I read about the plastic things strewn around and had a plan – get some nice new gardening things for the kids, then get them gardening! Replace the plastic and get some gardening done in one swoop!
