    by  • 26/01/2011 • Country craft • 0 Comments

Coming up in our March issue are a couple of lovely easy cushion makes that I thought you’d like to see. They’re made in modern toile fabrics from Marvic Textiles and Manuel Canovas and make a pretty addition to the bedroom. One is an easy three-piece bolster design; the other has a pleated detail on the front. They’re both easy to make and you can click here for the instructions. For more cushion ideas, take a look at our sister website House to Home. Happy stitching!

Use pretty toile fabrics in complementary colours.

    Bedlinen update

    by  • 20/01/2011 • Country style • 5 Comments

There’s nothing like a fresh new set of country-inspired bedlinen to brighten your bedroom. I was very taken with the new ‘Linea by Collier Campbell’ range (launching in February) at House of Fraser.

Award-winning textile designers and sisters Susan Collier and Sarah Campbell have exclusively designed two main vintage-style floral prints – ‘Cleo’ and ‘Megan’-  in deep pastel shades. I’m putting them on my Spring wishlist!

    Weekend breakfasts

    by  • 18/01/2011 • Country food • 1 Comment

I love weekend breakfasts in the winter! It’s amazing how many delicious things you can make with the humble egg. This Breakfast Egg Hash is featured in our February issue (on sale now) and I made it for friends on Sunday morning. It was amazingly simple and the perfect way to use up leftover roast potatoes. Yum!

    Garden inspiration

    by  • 13/01/2011 • Country moment • 1 Comment

With the start of the new year, I have been having thoughts about what I will do at home in the year to come. Last year we made a list of various DIY jobs that needed sorting – repaint exterior woodwork, extend deck, mend cladding, get bookshelves built. I was very impressed that we had a big tick next to each of them by the end of the year.

My big challenge for 2011 is the garden – I need to replant borders, maybe add a vegetable patch, get rid of some (or all) of the plastic toys that my kids have grown out of. In my dreams this is what it would like…

How to create the perfect craft room

    by  • 12/01/2011 • Country craft, Country style • 3 Comments

I thought I’d share this video from Ellie Tennant, Deputy Shopping Editor on our sister title, Ideal Home, which has some lovely ideas on how to create the perfect craft room…

    [brightcove vid=642575600001&exp3=601212043001&surl=http://c.brightcove.com/services&pubid=8385557001&w=468&h=412]

If you’re feeling inspired, here’s our favourite craft-room buys:

For a multi-purpose craft room and study choose an L-shaped white desk (try Ikea) with a swivel chair (Ikea or John Lewis) and an Anglepoise lamp (John Lewis).

In a hobby room, cover a table top with a colourful oilcloth (Cath Kidston) and use glass jars (John Lewis) or clear boxes (Muji) to store buttons, ribbons and trimmings. Pin fabric swatches on a memo board (Pins and Ribbons).

And to create craft corner, combine a desk with a drawer unit (Ikea) and a memo board above.

For more ideas, take a look at this craft room photo gallery and see more decorating videos at Housetohome.co.uk/tv.
